Liikunnan Riemu

Liikunnan Riemu is a sports club whose membership consists mainly of university students in Jyväskylä. Our club has a wide range of sports, and you can pursue your own different sports both as a competitor and as a hobby. We want everyone to feel safe and welcome in the club's activities and events. Every member of the club is equally valued, whether they are an enthusiast, a coach, a fan or an official.

Our values

The values that define the activities of Liikunnan Riemu are student-centredness, community, innovation and diversity. Student-centredness and community are the values on which the activity was founded and these values are and will continue to be firmly upheld. Innovation and diversity have, in turn, become defining factors over time. Liikunnan Riemu has grown to become one of the most diverse general clubs in Finland, and new sports are constantly being introduced through the initiative of its members/students. Although Liikunnan Riemu is a club focused on student well-being, we also want to do our best to support children's physical activity and well-being in the Jyväskylä area. For this purpose, a children's sports club was established in 2018, which enables us to hire university students as instructors in addition to children's physical activity.

Our mission

The purpose of the club is to offer its members opportunities to pursue their own sporting interests at low cost, both competitively and recreationally. Riemu Liikunnan Riemu wants to create a sense of community and spread the joyful message of exercise among students, staff, alumni and the entire University of Jyväskylä.

Our vision

Liikunnan Riemu is a sports club for all Jyväskylä University students and is also widely known throughout Finland. In addition to providing affordable and varied physical activity for students, the children's sports club is the most affordable and varied physical activity club for children in Jyväskylä.

Liikunnan Riemu’s principles for safer space

The principles for safer spaces apply to all members of Liikunnan Riemu, as well as anyone participating in the club’s activities, such as practices or events. These principles are binding in all club environments – both online and physical.

Respect: We approach other Riemu members, players, coaches, referees, and other event participants with an open and unbiased mindset. We make space for different backgrounds and strive to understand each other. We respect everyone’s personal space. We give everyone body autonomy, and we do not touch without permission, comment, or stare in a disruptive manner.

Equality and Non-discrimination: Everyone has the right to equal and non-discriminatory treatment. We do not tolerate hate speech, discriminatory, offensive, or othering expressions or behavior. We apologize if we offend others. However, we understand that everyone can make mistakes. We are ready to listen and learn if someone points out issues with our behavior.

Addressing Inappropriate Behavior: If we witness harassment or other inappropriate treatment, we strive to intervene in the situation. We encourage anyone who is subjected to inappropriate treatment to approach the club or division’s equality officer, event security personnel, or the club's board.

Supporting Community: We encourage each other to develop and learn together. We strengthen the Riemu spirit and support everyone’s participation in practices and events. Creating an open and safe atmosphere is everyone's responsibility, and we aim to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and heard.

The club has a harassment reporting channel, which can be accessed here. The form allows individuals to reach out either by their name or anonymously, and it is forwarded confidentially only to the club's equality officer for review.
